Exploring Membership & Confirmation

Dear Harbor Family,

Summer is fast approaching (despite the rain and cooler weather ahead!) and we are about to enter a season of slower rhythms, longer evenings, and a bit of breathing room. It's also a good time to reflect on where you are in your life with Harbor, and where God might be inviting you to go deeper. As we look ahead to the fall, I want to plant a seed around membership and confirmation.

At Harbor, these aren't just formalities but they're a way of saying, “I want to share in what God is doing in this place”. Whether you're newer to Harbor or have been around for a while, this is an open and joyful invitation to explore going deeper with Harbor Anglican.

What to Expect

Our membership class in the fall walks through Harbor's mission, vision, and values, namely the things that make us distinctly us. We’ll explore what it means to be Anglican, and what it means to be part of a rich and global family of faith, but specifically you'll hear honestly about where Harbor has been, where we are today, and where we sense God is leading us next.

Our confirmation classes are a bit more involved and explore the riches of the Anglian tradition that culminates with our Bishop visiting our parish to lay hands on, pray for, and confirm all confirmands. Our Bishop comes not to “make” you Anglican, but to affirm and strengthen what Christ has already begun in you within an Anglican context.

Confirmation is about recognizing your share in the apostolic ministry of Jesus Christ: the ministry of witness, service, and mission to the world. To learn more, read this short paper I wrote called “Why Confirmation?”.

In the meantime, a few simple steps:

  1. Fill out a Connect Card so we have your information on file

  2. Drop me an email to let me know you're interested in either or both

  3. If we haven't had a chance to meet, let's set up a conversation as I'd genuinely love to hear your story

Membership and confirmation mean more than just a name on a list. They mean being known, serving others, and giving back from what God has given you. As you take this next step, we encourage you to:

  • Join a Harbor Group

  • Find a place to serve

  • Begin a regular rhythm of giving

Whether you’re new to Harbor or have been with us for a while, the fall season is meaningful time to go deeper, and I’d be honored to walk with you. There is no need to decide anything just now as summer is for rest and recreation, and this is simply an early word so it can be on your radar.

Yours In Christ,

The Rev. Casey Bedell
